Reading the RSH Q1 Fire Remediation Figures in Context
A snapshot reported as at 30 June 2026: planned remediation, assessment-pending works and historical totals describe different groups and stages.

The Regulator of Social Housing’s Q1 2026/27 Fire Safety Remediation Survey records landlord-reported data as at 30 June 2026. The collection ran from 23 June to 21 July and covers relevant social housing buildings in England.
Of 17,258 buildings reported, 2,078 had a life-critical fire safety defect relating to the external wall system. The report separates buildings expected to be remediated within five years from those where works are complete but a building works assessment is still awaited. These are different stages of progress, rather than interchangeable measures of completed remediation.
The historical figures are another distinct measure: 2,889 buildings have been identified with such defects since June 2017, of which 811 have been remediated or are completed awaiting a new assessment. That cumulative group should not be confused with the buildings reported in one quarterly survey.
RSH cautions that changes over time can reflect changes in the number of buildings reported and their assessment status. Comparisons therefore need the reporting date and assessment context alongside the headline totals.
