The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has published the findings of its Q1 2026/27 Fire Safety Remediation Survey, covering social housing landlords in England responsible for buildings over 11 metres in height. The survey, issued to large and small landlords as well as non-respondents to prior surveys, captured data on 17,258 relevant buildings. Of these, 2,078 were identified as having a life-critical fire safety defect relating to the external wall system. Over 99.8% of all relevant reported buildings have undergone a fire risk assessment. Of the defective buildings, 1,593 (76.7%) are expected to be remediated within the next five years, while remediation works are complete for a further 6.7% (139 buildings), pending confirmation from a building works assessment. Since June 2017, 2,889 buildings have been identified with such defects, of which 811 (28.1%) have been remediated or are completed awaiting assessment. RSH will continue monitoring landlord progress and holding them accountable for tenant safety.
